Founded in the summer of 2017

8 lay men heard a call to create a Catholic Community

2017

Formation of a Group

Under the guidance of Bishop David G. O'Connell the formation of a men's group moved into the convent at Epiphany Catholic Church, South El Monte

Epiphany Church becomes the first home to the newly formed men's household.

2018

Zion!

The name “Zion” is established after Jon Martin is inspired during morning prayer. After some debate the men decide Zion is a good name indicative of God’s presence and blessing.

“Zion” men’s household becomes Zion Mission House to reflect the universal call of the Church to evangelize

2019

Building Years

During the infancy of Zion, the house was building it's identity and setting up goals to achieve.

  • Cord begins to work Fulltime for Zion Mission House

  • Set Goals for Communal Evangelization and discipleship

  • The household communication through Slack is announced

  • The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles donate a new altar and side altar to our chapel

  • First Household Retreat

2020

Growth

With the newly formed Zion Mission House, growth continues to bring more men of faith to share in fellowship

  • Jan 13, Bishop Dave holds a consecration mass to Jesus through Mary.

  • The brothers choose the Zion Mission House logo

  • Connection with Bobby Vidal and Office for Evangelization begins

  • Bishop Dave and Dr. Humberto encourage us to become a non-profit organization

  • Bishop Dave encourages us to move to St. Anthony’s under Msgr. Sal’s leadership

2021

New Beginnings

Welcomed by Msgr. Sal Pilato, Zion Mission house finds a new home in St Anthony of Padua in Gardena.

  • The Archdiocese moves the Our Lady Queen of Angeles Center for Priestly Formation from St. Anthony’s to Bishop Montgomery Feb 29

  • Zion Mission House moves to St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Gardena on July 1, 2021

    • The convent space was formerly occupied by the Poor Clare Missionary Sisters of the Most Blessed Sacrament

    • Mother foundress, Blessed Maria Ines Theresa lived in the house for a time

  • Msgr. Sal establishes a Eucharistic chapel in Gardena house

  • Zion hosts Alpha online for the first time

2022

Re-Growth

Taking from the latter of the Ephiphany house, Zion has now gained the experience to function more cohesively as well as gain a new community amongst the Gardena community.

  • Host Alpha in Person for St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

  • Opportunity to observe a commitment to be “single for the Lord” is introduced

  • Fr. Roberto Pirrone, associate priest at St. Anthony of Padua becomes our first official chaplain
